To commemorate the 80th anniversary of the D-Day landings in June 1944, Aberafan Shopping Centre is hosting a free museum exhibition in the Centre Square which runs until 4th September.

View a large-scale re-enactment of the D-Day landings, a museum exhibition of local D-Day and WWII stories, and a display of photos and wartime memorabilia.

Throughout the summer period, there will also be a series of activities, talks, and events, and introducing keepsakes from the exhibition. An educational element for local children, planned with their schools, is being hosted in the Centre’s special ‘classroom’ venue.

“The D-Day exhibition at Aberafan Shopping Centre is a poignant reminder of the immense sacrifices made during World War II,” said Chris Morgan MBE, Centre Manager.

“It is a spectacular display, rich in history and reverence, and is truly worth seeing for anyone wishing to honour and remember the bravery of those who fought for our freedom,” he added.

The exhibition will evolve throughout the summer and the team in the Centre Management office are hoping to hear from local people who have any snippets and items to share related to WWII in Port Talbot.

Dovetailing with the commemoration, on 6th June 2024, Aberafan Shopping Centre had the privilege of hosting the dedication and service ceremony at the main Landing Craft exhibit.
